Description
Sweet Meadow's group lesson program is second to none. One of our goals at Sweet Meadow is to keep horses affordable for everyone and that's just what we did. The two hour sessions coupled with a ground up approach has created the largest lesson program in the area for over sixteen years.

Finding the right riding lesson barn in general can be challenging. Not only does the learning program differ barn to barn, the dynamics of the students is also a huge factor. Shelley leans towards a Montessori type of philosophy and style. Montessori learning is characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child's natural psychological development.
It's important to know that as a mother herself, Shelley runs Sweet Meadow Stable on strict family values. The stable and it's students are united in every way and helping each other out is an intricate part of the lesson program. You will find upon visiting, Shelley and her students warmly welcome riders from various backgrounds and all levels of riding ability.
At Sweet Meadow Stable, lessons are much more than riding. They are complete horsemanship. There is no such thing as jumping out of your car, riding and then going home. Our students learn everything it takes to be a responsible caregiver of horses, an effective but compassionate rider and they are required to go over the days events which they are graded upon. Sometimes a written test is given and exceptional efforts are always rewarded.

Students learn everything from picking out the hooves to saddling up their own horse. They do chores around the farm and most of all they learn mentoring, leadership and responsibility. At Sweet Meadow, lessons are rain or shine. On rainy days the stable hosts indoor lessons which are held inside the stable with emphasis on equine education. Subjects such as hoofcare, general horsecare, emergency situations, tack care/cleaning educational crafts are done to keep students focus always on learning. Once a month, students participate in "game day." Game days infuse sportsmanship and are a great way to to change up daily lesson routines.
As a student, your child will receive enough knowledge to perhaps own their own horse or if students choose, eventually dive into an equine career field very comfortably.
Many of Sweet Meadow's young students have turned into assistant teachers at the stable.

The stable takes safe horseback riding very seriously. Sweet Meadow is one of the only stables where your small child will never be put on top a full sized horse. All small children start off on small ponies (which are easier to control not to mention lower to the ground if you fall off!) We also use safety stirrups on all of our stable owned saddles, and provide certified riding helmets if students do not have their own.
